Robert Torres

With virtuoso talent and superb melodic instincts, this artist chooses to speak through his guitar. Based upon the success of his radio single 'Endless Stairway', the world is eager to listen.

Robert Torres is a solo artist out of Texas who has been playing guitar for the past seven years. Always thinking of himself as a behind-the-scenes kind of guy, he took it no further than that – until now. Robert began writing and composing melodic instrumentals, sensing that audiences were seeking a return to the acoustic roots of music. Based upon the overwhelming response to his debut radio single 'Endless Stairway', his instincts are proving correct. Choosing to translate his voice and storylines through only guitar may seem like an unusual choice for a young aspiring commerical artist, but it is not without precedent. Music history has been marked numerous times by dramatic shifts back to acoustic songwriting. Listening to Robert's music, it's hard not to believe that we may be on the verge of such a movement. Alexis Adams recently interviewed this intriguing new artist to get an inside look at his inspiration for making great music.

ALEXIS: When did you first discover your love of music?
ROBERT: Ten years ago, when my little girl was one year old, I bought her a guitar. I never thought of playing, but then I began just messing around, coming up with riffs/licks here and there. Pieces of the puzzle just started coming together!

ALEXIS: Your song 'Endless Stairway' has been a big hit on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
ROBERT: It was a humbling reaction. I am very grateful!

ALEXIS: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
ROBERT: Obstacles- an endless journey made for me by angels, with Endless Stairways.

ALEXIS: Would you say that the mood of your other songs is in the same vein as 'Endless Stairway'?
ROBERT: No, the mood of the other songs is different. Some include collaborations with vocals.

ALEXIS: How would you characterize yourself as a musician? (ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving...)
ROBERT: As a musician I am serious, down-to-earth, charismatic, and sometimes forgetful.

ALEXIS: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
ROBERT: Growing up I was surrounded by family who had a love for music. I do have distant Spanish relatives who are musicians, whom I have never met.

ALEXIS: What do you find most rewarding about being a musician? What do you find most challenging?
ROBERT: It encourages me when someone loves the music and it captivates their soul to the point that I see inspiration! The most challenging part of the music industry is finding the time to devote to music in a busy world and raising a family.

ALEXIS: Who are your role models in music?
ROBERT: I was always an admirer of Jim Morrison growing up in my teens. And a little bit of Dave Navarro- I totally dig his style of workmanship with the guitar.

ALEXIS: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
ROBERT: Playing at the Arlington Museum of Art in front of artists who were not musicians, but artists in different areas was really neat!

ALEXIS: Do you have a music video for your hit single? If so, what can you tell us about it?
ROBERT: Yes, but it’s not professional- it’s homemade and raw. It was something Acoustic Drive Records and I did, in part for promoting my song for the “Listen For Charity’’ campaign. Whoever had the most likes and/or listens would receive $1,000 and have it donated to their choice of charity. My charity was Operation Blessing out of Cleburne, Texas.

ALEXIS: What advice would you give to young, aspiring musicians out there who are unsure and need guidance?
ROBERT: Always be yourself, stand tall, look them in the eye, and be bold with the gifts you have. Even if you don’t sing or are an instrumentalist like me, there are people who will appreciate what you do, and possibly even love what you have to offer!

ALEXIS: What's next for Robert Torres? Is there a new single in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
ROBERT: Oh yes, a new single is in the works. I am really excited about this one because it is with the band I’m in, so it will be full band with vocals and a whole lot of rock! It’s a co-write/collab with Dead Man’s Snare that should be out by this October! Look out for ‘In The Dark!

ALEXIS: I look forward to hearing it! Thank you for sharing your story with me. I wish you and the band continued success!
