Logan Arceneaux

A heavenly but hip voice and spot-on compositional instincts converge to give Logan Arceneaux a huge hit with 'Stronger' - likely to be one of the year's most cherished pop piano ballads.

A gorgeous young musician with the best pop pipes we've heard since Edie Brickell - and the melodic genius of Owl City to go with it - Logan Arceneaux's work has the kind of whimsical, rootsy appeal that can take an artist to the very top of the charts, confederating fans from a wide variety of neighboring genres (including rap and hip-hop) along the way. Her new single 'Stronger' demonstrates why the most successful songs tend to be built around a specific vocal aesthetic (very few singers can pull off this kind of sound without seeming artificial or dispassionate) and they have the potential for big long-term rewards within the calling when they rarely come along. Independent reporter Blake Wright recently caught up with the lovely songstress to talk about the energy behind her music, the long years of practice that led to the refined artistic proclivities which inform it now, and the future she sees for herself after the success of 'Stronger'.

BLAKE: When did you first discover your love of music?
LOGAN: Ever since I was little I’ve always had a strong connection with music. My family incorporated it in my life everywhere they could. My mom used to blast the stereo and get us dancing to clean the house. All of the cleaning supplies became instruments or microphones. It was a lot of fun! There wasn’t a specific moment I discovered a love of music; just the moment I started to pursue my dream. At that point, I was around eight or nine.

BLAKE: Your song ‘Stronger’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
LOGAN: My first reaction was freaking out and screaming. It was so exciting! It's still hard to believe that my singles are actually being played on radio stations. It's surreal to me.

BLAKE: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
LOGAN: The inspiration behind Stronger was a specific event which prompted me to think more about life and relationships. It sparked intense emotions and I just began writing. It was an in-the-moment thing, and it came out great!

BLAKE: Would you say that the mood of your other songs is in the same vein as ‘Stronger’?
LOGAN: I like to have enough range to do any genre I want, and all my tracks have a lot of hard work put into them. My slogan is ‘Make Music You Love’! So far each single has been in a different genre and mood.

BLAKE: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician? (Ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving...)
LOGAN: Down-to-earth, crazy, funny, loving, energetic… but serious too.

BLAKE: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
LOGAN Lots of family members have sung or played instruments. My brother actually used to make some dope EDM music. I can’t think of one person in my family who doesn’t love music.

BLAKE: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
LOGAN: The most rewarding thing is having people actually enjoy listening to my music and wanting to hear more. Some fans email me to say they want more of this or more of that and it’s really flattering! The most challenging thing is probably all the hard work I have to put in the studio; writing songs, performance practices, social media and more. There never seems to be enough time!

BLAKE: Who are your role models in music?
LOGAN: Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Rihanna.

BLAKE: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
LOGAN: I’m going to save this one because even though I’ve had great performances I think I can do better. When I sell out Madison Square Garden... that will be my most memorable performance!

BLAKE: Do you have a music video for your hit single? If so, what can you tell us about it?
LOGAN: We finished filming and we're in the editing process now. It will be released soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

BLAKE: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
LOGAN: Don't give up! Everyone says this, but seriously, it couldn’t be more fundamental. You can do anything you want no matter what others tell you. You just have to work as hard as you can! And when you are tired, work harder. Sacrifice and hard work pay off in the long run.

BLAKE: What's next for you as an artist? Is there a new single in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
LOGAN: I have new songs in the making that will be released soon. As we grow together you will come to know me better through my music!

BLAKE: Thank you so much Logan for taking the time to explain your history with music and plans for the future. We wish you the best of everything and imagine the coming months should bring much good news!
