Vision Of Paradise Ruth Juon and Evi Juon

There is a current of old world wisdom and modernity captured in the music of Vision Of Paradise Ruth Juon and Evi Juon and that energy, as embodied in her debut radio single ‘Aquarellsong Paradise’, has got listeners enthralled. It's time the world learned more about this intriguing pop artist.

Some artists try to scale their way to the top of the music industry by personal flamboyance (or inscrutability). Others work the business like hardened politicians and hope that money and fame will redeem whatever compromises are made along the way. But a very few can do it by a golden amalgamation of originality, musicianship and talent. Vision Of Paradise Ruth Juon and Evi Juon is such a duo. Currently residing in Zurich, Switzerland, Vision Of Paradise Ruth Juon and Evi Juon have been fast attracting recognition and honors, and one recent critic's account of their award-winning work probably explains why: ‘A unique and compelling combination of beautiful soprano vocal stylings and intriguing illustrations, 'Aquarellsong Paradise' is a spellbinding viewing experience that your inner child will especially enjoy.’ You can hear the authenticity in every chord and verse of their new pop single, which undoubtedly explains its rapid ascent up the charts. Independent reporter Lily Clark recently caught up with Vision Of Paradise Ruth Juon and Evi Juon to talk about their history, musical influences and exciting plans for the future.

LILY: As an artist on the rise, what is one thing you are most excited about and one thing you are most afraid of happening in your career?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: One thing we are most excited about is when people give us a positive feedback of our music and pictures. Sometimes people tell us that our art feels good to them, that it makes them happy and inspires them. In our career we are afraid of nothing but we have high respect and so we try in all to give our best.

LILY: Your song ’Aquarellsong Paradise’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: Fantastic, great, super! We're looking foreward to what will come.

LILY: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: We created ‘Aquarellsong Paradise’ – a love song to planet earth and it's inhabitants, as our Swiss contribution for the Eurovision Song Contest. Song «Aquarellsong Paradise» Download on iTunes, Amazon..., Single CD «Aquarellsong Paradise» is available at It was a great opportunity to present our paradise music+art to an international audience. Evi: We did it as we always do: Ruth makes the lyrics and the song and I translated the lyrics in a aquarell. The Aquarell Picture is also the basis for the video. So together it makes the Aquarellsong. The title Aquarellsong stands also for the tight combination of Music+Art. It's a challenge in the Music field to declare and present music+pictures as a oneness. So it was for us a special joy to win in February 2016 the Akademia Video-Award. To show our Music+Art-Video Repertory we also run our own YouTube Channel: These Videos also are the bases for our Vision of Paradise ARTCONCERT, where Ruth sings live in front of the moving pictures on sceen.

LILY: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth: Yes, but it was a fantastic experience. Many years ago I saw on TV Barbra Streisands «One Voice» Concert in her garden and there the wish arose in my heart to also do a concert program, but with all self composed songs. Today we are very happy to be on stage not only with our own composed songs but also with self painted moving pictures to each song. Our video supported concert program is called «Vision of Paradise ARTCONCERT». The «fuel» that leads us to dedicate our Music and Art work to the theme paradise is the organization «Women for Peace» . They asked me to write a song against the suppression of the Indians. I agreed immediately. During the lyric work I had difficulties because I am against any kind of suppression, against the suppression of women, men, children, animals, environment and so forth. If I wanted to be fair, I would have had to write a song for all of them, which is impossible. What should I do? I had the idea that I should go for it the other way around, not to say «what against», but rather «what for». Then all of a sudden it got very simple. Of course I am for Paradise on earth! So, «Vision of Paradise» was born. My sister Evi joined me, cause what could be more fascinating for a painter than to create paradisiacal pictures? Since then we have dedicated all our efforts to the subject «Paradise». We began to observe moments of luck in life, and with intuition, thinking, and fantasy, searched for the paradisical ideal, and came in the song «Vision of Paradise» to the conclusion: Paradise is where love is!

LILY: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician? (Ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving, complicated…)
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth: The thinker, the visioneer, the system analyst, introverted, humorous, light-hearted, truth searcher, easy, harmonious, solution oriented, nature lover. Evi: The maker, the improvisor. the practical, extraverted, humorous, light-hearted, truth searcher, easy, harmonious, solution oriented, nature lover.

LILY: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: We work together at eye level as a dream team and discuss things out until we find the best win-win solution. We divide the work depending on each other's skills.

LILY: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: Yes, our father was a sound engineer and had his own sound studio. Unfortunately he passed away, but that is why we have our own studio and record and mix our music ourselves. He also was a passionate hobby tenor singer and our mother accompanied him on the piano. That influenced us since we were born.

LILY: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: The most rewarding and challenging for us is to realize our own ideas in Music+Art, texts, pictures, music, arrangements, the show, CDs, just to do what we want to do, to try to live a free and independent life, and to be able to follow our heart, no matter how difficult it is and how long it takes. The challenge is to be patient til all comes together. But at the very end, when the work is really finished and indeed becomes as we imagined it before, this is really very fulfilling.

LILY: Who are your role models in music?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth: Barbra Streisand's strong interpretations and high level style influenced me a lot, but also Ella Fitzgerald's freedom in creativity and improvisation, and also the classical singer Edita Gruberova, her perfect vocal technique, without breakes in the voice, her ability to sing with ease all she wants, the highest notes without any limits. But also my dear friend and accompanist, the genius concert piano player Eugen Cicero, who showed me how to make music as a happy and spiritual experience. Album «Pas de deux – Ruth Juon and Eugen Cicero» with our favorites from the Great American Songbook. Download on iTunes, Amazon..., CD «Pas de deux» available at Evi: In drawing and painting I have no specific role models. It's very inspiring to create the visual world to Ruth's Paradise Songs. I build my pictures out of my inner imagination, based on the text. As soon as the inner imagination is completed I start to draw. I love to draw figurative with lots of details and fine wit, because like this I can tell stories and stories in the stories. My greatest goal is to draw with a free stroke full of life. This stroke drawing is the basis where I can freely set the Aquarell colours. It feels a little bit like dancing. It's always again a great adventure to mix the wonderful pure bright colours and water, to bring them to flow and also to stop at the right place. In water colour painting correction is not really possible. So I prefer to take the risk but if it not fits at once, there are other blank papers waiting…

LILY: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: Saturday April 16th 2016 we played our Vision of Paradise ARTCONCERT in a wonderful place. The stage had a huge screen to project Evi's Aquarell video projection which she played from the computer. I could sing in the middle of Evi's beautiful pictures. People told us that it looked like the performer would melt together with the pictures and that it was a unique experience. We felt that we were able to take the audience into a wonderful paradise world.

LILY: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: Learn as much as you can, love what you do, follow your heart, and never give up.

LILY: What's next for you as an artist? Is there a new single in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
VISION OF PARADISE RUTH JUON AND EVI JUON: Ruth and Evi: We are working in the studio to bring out the next song. Of course it's a Paradise Song in a joyful 6/8 beat with a colourful joyful picture.

LILY: Very exciting, I can't wait! Thank you for taking the time to let us into your world as artists. I wish you continued success in your career.
