Joe Galaxy

Joe Galaxy is captivating audiences with his originality, distinct lyrical style and edgy production, on full display in his new radio single ‘Walk It’. We wanted to find out what drives this dedicated rap / dance artist to push the limits of the genre.

You can generally tell when an artist is ready for the next stage of their career. It shows up in timing and tonal certainties, and there's a sense of conviction that just can't be faked. Joe Galaxy's catchy new track ‘Walk It’ has that audible conviction, but its sheer inventiveness and mainstream digestibility fulfill the other half of the equation that determines who gets radio time and who goes home unheard. It also doesn't hurt that the critics have raved about his award-winning song 'Walk It' stating that it is: ‘An aggressive club anthem featuring Pitbull and others, this thumping melange of bass and bravado will guarantee a full dance floor with each spin.’ Independent reporter Alexis Adams recently caught up with Joe Galaxy to talk about his new single and the passion for hard-hitting dance music that gave rise to it.

ALEXIS: Let's just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
JOE GALAXY: Well the craziest thing that has happened is that the music industry and how it works is a secret that I will never tell. shhhhhhhh! Lol So let's just say that the craziest thing that has happened in my music career is the music career.

ALEXIS: Your song ’Walk It’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
JOE GALAXY: Yeah, first of all I am very happy to hear that "Walk It" is receiving positive response on radio. I knew it would because we tested it in college radio 1st and it went #3 overall in worldwide college radio. Plus, it features Pitbull! Playing on radio is the ultimate feeling for an Artist like myself because radio programming puts you on that level and all the swagger that you thought you had comes out because you earned it one way or another. I couldn't sleep the 1st night from excitement when I was notified. I had a bottle of Veuve champagne to celebrate! Now I just want the fire to spread and burn baby!

ALEXIS: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
JOE GALAXY: Well my man Renegade Foxxx and I put our heads together to create an aggressive dope club banger! And with Pitbull, Mr. Worldwide, on the 1st verse I knew I have kill it on the 3rd verse. It came out hot! Nothing better than catchin a record and having it played all over the world. All my music's inspiration is fun, success, and positivity with an edge.

ALEXIS: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
JOE GALAXY: Yes, this is true. I come from humble beginnings and my mother raised me by herself. I just feel if I can breakthrough and make something of myself so she will be proud and her sacrifices will be well appreciated. I mean if I can turn her sacrifices into something big then that is turning it into something positive, letting adversity be the fuel. My mom and family are very proud to know I'm radio now. It shuts up the doubters and haters because nothing does that better than success baby! Follow me on Instagram: @thejoegalaxy to get the latest scoop.

ALEXIS: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician? (Ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving, complicated…)
JOE GALAXY: I am down-to-earth, fun-loving, and I don't take myself too seriously. That just means I am on a mission for success but I'm pretty chill. I love to have fun and be happy.

ALEXIS: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
JOE GALAXY: It has been really great working with my crazy team. I've got the best team behind me and it is no mistake that my music is bangin'. I stay humble because my team is so dope when working with music industry juggernauts like Renegade Foxxx who has worked with Mob Deep, Trina, & Pitbull it is pretty exciting. And working with Grammy nominated Artist, Producer, Singer/Songwriter "Taj" Phillip Jackson who was ASCAP writer of the year in 2008, has worked with Lionel Ritchie, Trey Songz, Elliot Yamin, among many others, it's kinda hard to become anything but humble. But, it is exciting to go into the studio and walk out with a smash!

ALEXIS: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
JOE GALAXY: I really didn't come from a musical background. My family really isn't full of musicians. I am original O.G. in this category with my family.

ALEXIS: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
JOE GALAXY: The most rewarding thing about being an artist is seeing how the music positively inspires or make people happy. I am also an actor, but I always tell people the power of music is amazing! When someone can feel happy or hyped because of your music that is so dope. Fun and excitement is hype when you feel hyped you aren't feeling pain, depression, or worrying about perceived things going on around you. So you are having a moment of excitement!

ALEXIS: Who are your role models in music?
JOE GALAXY: My role models are all artists who are on the grind and have achieved a high level of success and have fun doing it. But also who make hot records. There have been too many to list but just to name a few: Pitbull, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Chris Brown, Usher, Justin Bieber, Nirvana, Dave Grohl, Marvin Gaye, Depeche Mode...

ALEXIS: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
JOE GALAXY: My best and most memorable performance was on the Daily Buzz Morning show performing my single "Bankroll" Ft. Renegade Foxxx. We performed live on National TV in front of about 3 million viewers. It is the funniest story because it was Renegade and my 1st performance together. It was 7a.m. and I showed up wearing a hoodie, Timberland's and my snap back. Right before we went onstage, I changed clothes in the green room into a tux jacket and ascot. I mean, we were on live national t.v., I wanted to look debonair. Renegade was shocked by the ascot and we were on in like 1 minute. He was was like, "what are you doing?" lol. Then he realized it could be dope and we went on to perform. We performed "Bankroll" and it was hot! But imagine being hyped at 7am. I had some tequila with me but didn't drink it in the green room because it was like 7am on Tuesday morning. These people gonna think I have a drinkin problem, lol. Well, we ripped the verses and sang the choruses and it came out hot. I have a behind the scenes video that I am goin to upload to my Youtube: @1JoeGalaxy come subscribe and check it out.

ALEXIS: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
JOE GALAXY: Get your weight up, get with the right people, invest in yourself, never quit, work on your craft so you are confident and have some fun. Have some fun because if it isn't fun, how are you going to create excitement? Believe me it is a crazy business but I love it and it is a ton of fun. Hit me up anytime on Instagram: @TheJoeGalaxy if you have any specific questions about advice.

ALEXIS: What's next for you as an artist? Is there a new single in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
JOE GALAXY: 2016 is going to be epic! I am working on my performance now and will be booking performances and tours where my music is hot. Stay tuned and Instagram me: @TheJoeGalaxy for tour dates. Also, I am releasing two new singles in the 1st quarter of 2016. They will probably be out by the time this interview is published. All I can say, is one of them is a sequel to "Drinkin the Night Away" and the other is a single that is in a league of it's own. My album is filled with singles, no filler records. I'm looking forward to shooting my next music video, hopefully in Dubai. Also, I am in discussions with major brands for various endorsement deals. It's a very big situation right now! It's actually getting really ugly! hahaa!

ALEXIS: That all sounds quite exciting! Best of luck with your new musical creations and I look forward to hearing what comes next.
