Beck Martin

Drawing on rich musical roots, personal instinct and a healthy dose of rhythmic genius, new
dance / electronica artist Beck Martin brings a style all his own- and fans of his new single ‘I Love My Life’ all across the world are loving it.

A resident of Prague, Beck Martin has been balancing life responsibilities with his creative drive for years, but has recently found his musical interests evolving and expanding. This evolution, it turns out, has been the conduit for an exhilarating journey to the threshold of worldwide recognition. Critics of Beck Martin's award-winning work recently had this to say about the rising star: ‘Synthetic riffs, ambient stylings and soothing percussive modulations transport listeners to a faraway, dreamy landscape they'll never want to leave.’ Added to these honors, his debut radio single ‘I Love My Life’ is rapidly ascending the international charts. Reporter Andrew Edwards recently caught up with Beck Martin to learn more about this intriguing dance / electronica artist, his unique musical vision and plans for the future.

ANDREW: When did you first get that feeling that your music career was gaining momentum?
BECK MARTIN: When I got nominated for a best electronic-dance album of January 2016! That made me super happy and I didn’t expect to win that category, so after I found out I was just crying and shaking like a little kid and after an invitation to Los Angeles? Well that is something huge because I’m flying as awarded artist and to see USA was always my dream! Lately I told myself I will visit USA as someone already. I’m not flying for a holiday but exactly as I wanted! Another big thing is cooperation with GODYI records what places music into movies and TV series! Apparently I’m a big deal! So that’s all just great and I can’t wait for what will be next! Thanks to everyone who voted for me and my music! I appreciate it as much as I can!

ANDREW: Your song ’I Love My Life’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
BECK MARTIN: Honestly I was surprised with it because I am from the Czech Republic and in all fairness most of the people I used to call my mates or people from the same nation were only able to criticise me and my art and release such a negative articles that I was upset and embarrassed coming from Czech Republic. These were mostly people who never did anything themselves or were always jealous of me and my success. In the end I didn’t care that much because the British took to my music a lot better and feedback I was getting was more likely to be positive, even if there were some people making fun. I believe it was because girls liked it and when Americans decided to play it on radio, I was shocked! Thanks a lot, it means a lot to me, and thanks to everyone who is listening to my lead single! My only wish is that people understand the lyrics and transform it into their own lives and think about what’s great about their lives! The meaning of my music is deeper than it sounds. I hope everyone understands that!

ANDREW: What was the inspiration behind your debut radio single?
BECK MARTIN: My inspiration was my life and all the people who often come to me and complain about stuff, or girls that are always looking at me! I always think that things could be million times worse than they actually are! I thought about when I’m waking up, thinking of all I’ve got, like my own room in a rented house, I never had own room, for example, because I had 3 siblings. Then, that I’m working hard for the things I want, I’m happy I have two jobs whilst I’m working on the third one which is my music career, also happy for all the girls that are always giving me their attention, so I’m just purely grateful and happy for everything that comes to my life. I'm happy that I live in United Kingdom, a beautiful and amazing country, that I have amazing and supportive bosses like Wendy, Matt, Kyle and Kevin and on the top of everything that my music career is taking off as well. That means I have other bosses from Akademia! I believe I have achieved everything through hard work and gratitude All this was the inspiration behind my debut radio single. I love my life! Thanks to everyone!

ANDREW: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
BECK MARTIN: Honestly when I first saw your question I was crying again and I totally agree. I was born into very rich family, my mom she used to work in a music publishing company and my dad had his own company. I literally had everything I ever wanted and if I didn’t, I would cryi my eyes out till my mom bought it. Later on we lost everything and from the top we went to the bottom and we had to sell our luxury cars, our luxury flat and start all over in one small village close to the Prague. Unfortunately at that time there were floods and we lost even what little what we had! We had to live with our grandmotherr where we felt unwelcomed. But no matter what went wrong our dad always stood up strong, which is why I adore him. I moved to the UK and my own nightmare and fairy tale started. I was happy, doing my wrestling and working towards my goals whilst I was helping other people to get jobs and live different lives as well. But I had to move out 3 times in a row and it wasn’t nice. I slept one month in a car. One day after my overnight shift a blonde police officer woke me up and asked me what am I doing in that car? I was so embarrassed and shocked, but I told her the truth and that I was saving up for the flat ato move out soon. She told me that they had to remove the car and I asked her if she could give me three weeks to find a flat! That was the most embarrassing moment I have ever experienced, and I knew that no matter what, not having a roof over my head would embarass me more than anything. Later on I started picking myself up, paid off my debts and I recorded my first song, published my books, released my songs, then I made an album, won an award and now I’m about to fly to Los Angeles and hope my music will be in a Hollywood movies and TV series! Thank you all for your patience and hard work. Thanks to everyone for giving me the opportunity to succeed!

ANDREW: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician? (Ex. Down-to-earth, serious, fun-loving, complicated…)
BECK MARTIN: I think I’m funny and motivatiedand energetic as wellas fair. I think that my story, like my lyrics and melodies, are meant to cheer people up and motivate them to do their own things, love their lives and the people around them and work hard for what t

ANDREW: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
BECK MARTIN: Purely amazing! I love my photographers to the bone! Thomas Cat and Jirina Kantova! They’re both same hard working people and very passionate about what they do. Also thanks to two DJ’s – DJ Shaw-T and Alex Je from PS beats and David Lear who put everything together and mastered my first album! We recorded my songs within a few hours and everything sounds so great because of David Lear! ! I also owe big thanks to Siobhan who was always my inspiration and motivation to carry on and not give up., I have to say that without this girl I would probably have packed all my stuff and gone back home as a failure. I remember her dancing on my third single. She was always part of my team from day one and she is the one who deserves the biggest thank you! Without Siobhan, there won’t be any me ! It is amazing what a girl can do! I believe women are the best motivation a man can get! Thanks people! You all did a lot for me and I will never forget because you all were the people who were with me from the day one and you all deserve to stay with me when I am famous worldwide ! It is very difficult to find people like you all are and I’m grateful I met you!

ANDREW: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
BECK MARTIN: Yeah I did. My mom worked in a music publishing company called Supraphone, our largest such company at that time so I heard plenty of stories about our most famous musicians and how they started their careers and so on! It was amazing. However I always wanted to be successful worldwide, always wanted to know the truth and always wanted to make everyone around me happy and I knew it won’t happen in the Czech Republic. Only inUnited States or United Kingdom. Apart from that no, I don’t have any musicians in my family.

ANDREW: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
BECK MARTIN: The most rewarding about being an artist is when people are listening to your music, talking about you or want to be like you or when you motivate someone to do more with their lives! That is what I think is most rewarding. The most challenging are critics. I completely disagree with every critic because to me everything is like a pyramid and you can’t expect to jump from nothing with no experience right to the top. Take my singing for example, let’s face it I’m not the best vocalist in the world, and sometimes I do make little silly mistakes. But I love my critics because they’re my biggest fans, though I always have to keep them in their place. Some of my fans back home call me a 21st century renaissance man . If that’s true, then a man like me can’t accept any critics, only work his ass off and improve and improve because I believe that I can be on top even if it takes time. I disagree that you have to be great at one thing first. I believe that whatever I will focus my mind on, I will get it! And that is the challenge I have for myself! Just to be the best in everything. No excuses, no retreat, no surrender. People who don’t respect me and don’t understand, I have nothing to say to them. A lion doesn't lose his sleep over the opinions of sheep.

ANDREW: Who are your role models in music?
BECK MARTIN: I adore so many people out there! I love Enrique Iglesias! Ricky Martin! Scooter! I love our Slovakian rapper Rytmus! I love Czech Dominika Myslivcova, just another great artist! I love Jennifer Lopez! Justin Bieber! But the weirdest is that my role model is Pitbull. I’m not a great fan of his music however I’m big fan of him because that guy worked his bum off to be where he is today and I want this to be my story as well. I’m so obsessed with being the absolute best that I want to be the best combination of all of them and I want to be the one who is leading the world of music one day as well as is leading the world and humanity towards a new world.

ANDREW: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
BECK MARTIN: I haven't had any proper live performance yet, I am practicing to do so! The first big one is meant to come on 13th of May in Chatham combined with wrestling. Hopefully! I’m still getting ready for my career! I hope I will be able to sell the biggest arenas worldwide in the close future!

ANDREW: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
BECK MARTIN: Work hard, never give up, listen to your heart and do what you love, what you want to do and don’t expect to get paid for it! Do it because you love to do it! The money will come later on andeverything with it! It is all just about the first step and knowing exactly where you wanna be one day! Then just believe and work hard! Eventually you will grow into your dreams as I did!

ANDREW: What's next for you as an artist? Is there a new single in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
BECK MARTIN: I aim high. I wanna sell million copies of my first album and go on a world tour. I would love to record the best music videos ever seen, I believe that I will achieve it with my team and with a bit of preparation! I already released a new single on Christmas day! I don’t think it sounds perfect however I have done it from the bottom of my heart for a girl I wrote about already – For Siobhan. Just to remind her how amazing and beautiful she is and what all she means to me! She will surely forgive me if I will mention that her life always didn’t treat her well and I wanted to be the change in her life and show her that bad period of her life is about to end and there’s something beautiful waiting on her ahead, in a close future. As I said before, because of her I’m still going. At the moment I’m bit unsure about my future because Los Angeles and United States were always my dream and if I will have the chance to move out of United Kingdom and pursue my music career in States, I will do so. I’d love her to go with me and be with me. I hope that my latest single about her made her happy and stayed in her head as same as in her heart and she will always see me only in a positive light because I love her to the bone. ! Okay, after this single I will have my first radio tune! I hope that when I record this new track which is already in preparation, I will reach airplay around the world and lift myself up right to the stars! I know I dream too much, however I’m doing all I can to make it a reality one day! Plus I know the secret! So things should happen as I want, shouldn’t they? If they will, you all can get ready for an amazing world that we’re about to create and you’re about to live in! Thanks for amazing interview guys! I’m not crazy, ha! I just know what I want and I represent the light and the truth! God bless you all! Thanks for your support!

ANDREW: Sounds great! Thank you so much for letting me get to know more about you as an artist. I wish you continued success in your career.
